Western Points Heating Renewals

As part of the Renewals Programme the Electrical Points Heating Systems (including pad, cartridge and short strip heaters), were renewed and replaced with a modern heating system.  Giffen Group were successful with their tender, won as part of the E&P Framework for the renewal of 33 Point Ends.  We were also awarded a further 26 points ends as a variation to the contract.
  
Scope of Works

Giffen Group Ltd had to design and install a new Points Heating system compliant with current Railway Group and Network Rail Standards incorporating work within the Electrical and Civils disciplines. The works included:
  • Design
  • Site Survey
  • Vegetation Clearance at each site
  • Civils Installation - troughing, retaining walls, TCB bases, transformer bases and DNO cubicle bases.
  • Electrical Equipment Installation - new suppies, DNO cubicles, distribution cubicles, transformers, TCB's, cabling and points heating strips.
  • Testing and Commissioning of all electrical installations
  • Recovery of redundant equipment 
  • DNO management
As the works took place during the winter months, the new installation ran alongside the existing points heating ensuring a successful and safe switchover to the new installation with no infringement to safety.
